The University of Zagreb (1669) is the oldest and biggest university in South-Eastern Europe. As a comprehensive public Central European university, University of Zagreb offers education and research and in all scientific fields (arts, biomedicine, biotechnology, engineering, humanities, natural sciences and social sciences) and a broad spectrum of courses at all study levels, from undergraduate to postgraduate. With 29 Faculties, 3 Art Academies and the University Centre for Croatian Studies it is the flagship educational institution in the country, a place where more than 7900 teachers and 72480 students develop knowledge and acquire skills.
The Faculty of Mining, Geology and Petroleum Engineering organizes and conducts research and higher education activities including joint doctoral programs within the domain of technical (mining, petroleum and geological engineering) and natural sciences (geology). The faculty is providing several lifelong education programs for professionals, academics and PhD students and actively participates in the EIT Raw Materials KIC consortium (UNIZG is associated partner since 2015), International consortium on landslides (ICL), CO2GeoNet, ENeRG and ESEIA. The faculty conducted the Strategy for Management of Mineral Resources in the Republic of Croatia and was a partner institution in preparation of the Energy Strategy of the Republic of Croatia. A Quality management system, in accordance with the HRN EN ISO 9001 norm, has been implemented since 2007 for administrative services (related to academic education, scientific research work and industry collaboration, as well as the faculty management). Recent faculty strategic documents foster development of education and scientific research in order to support associated industry. Academic staff of the Faculty (65) published in the last 5 years 175 WoS publications, conducted 39 scientific projects and 550 industry-related projects with over 250 companies (mainly SME-s). .
