The Mineral and Energy Economy Research Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences is an associate partner of the EIT Raw Materials KIC in a RIS country and employs 101 staff. The Institute's main research areas include Polish mineral resources, geodynamics and geothermal energy of Polish geostructural basins, the development of information systems for the purpose of forecasting development of the mineral resources economy, fuels and energy economics, the regionalisation of Polish energy policy under economic and ecologic considerations, industrial waste storage in exhausted mine sites and management of municipal waste, as well as sustainable development of Polish regions.

The Institute has extensive experience in the assessment of efficiency and profitability of new investments in the mineral resources economy and waste management; the assessment of the possibilities and economics of unconventional energy sources; life cycle assessment and life cycle cost analysis, municipal waste management, WEEE waste management; legal and economic aspects of industrial waste storage and re-use/recycling. Experts from MEERI PAS were involved in the preparation of corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities for business and realisation of CSR reports; active dialogue with stakeholders; training for stakeholders - (PhD) students, entrepreneurs, researchers; organisation of conferences and workshops related to innovation ideas, raw materials (mining, processing, recycling), circular economy. MEERI PAS is a co-founder of the Waste Management and Recycling Cluster (Polish National Key Cluster) and strongly cooperates with 90 members, including 52 SMEs and other ecosystem actors in Poland.
